I’ve illustrated Miso Magic, a picture book written by Moni Ritchie Hadley and published by Albert Whitman & Co. It’s our second collaboration after The Star Festival !
This time, the story takes place in a snowy country side in Japan where the miso brews silently in a traditional miso barn. Dad introduces to his daughter Chiyoko how to make miso for the first time, a traditional family event that he also had shared with his own dad.
It’s a story of transmission between generations and also a story about the patience and magic of time, as how every ingredient turns slowly into savory miso…

シカゴの出版社Albert Whitman & Co. 社から出版された絵本Miso Magicに挿絵を描きました。作者のMoni Ritchie Hadelyさんとは、The Star Festival以来２度目の共作です！
今回のお話は雪の降る山あいの古い味噌蔵が舞台です。雪遊びをしたい千代子ちゃんですが、お父さんはこの年初めて家族代々伝わる味噌作りを娘に教えることにします。渋々始めた味噌作りですが・・・。
世代を超えて伝わる知恵のお話でもあり、いろいろな材料がゆっくり発酵して美味しいお味噌ができあがるように、時間の不思議や待つことの大切さが伝わるお話です。

J’ai illustré le livre Miso Magic écrit par Moni Ritchie Hadley, édité par Albert Whitman & Co à Chicago. C’est notre deuxième collaboration après The Star Festival !
Cette fois-ci, l’histoire se déroule dans la campagne enneigée du Japon. Papa montre pour la première fois la fabrication du miso à sa fille Chiyoko, la tradition familiale qu’il a aussi vécue avec son papa.
C’est une histoire de transmission entre générations mais aussi l’histoire de la patience et de la magie du temps, comme les ingrédients qui se transforment tout doucement en délicieux miso.
